Loop Recording

Records in 60-second segments and auto-deletes the oldest unlocked clips when storage fills up. Set your storage quota and DriveVault handles the rest.

📡

Dual Camera

Simultaneously record from front and rear cameras using CameraX. Capture both the road ahead and your cabin in one synchronized view.

Export raw video, metadata JSON, or GPX route files. Share via Android share sheet with automatic 50MB trimming. Redact location data for privacy.

Immich Sync

Optional sync to your self-hosted Immich server. Encrypted API key storage, configurable sync rules (Wi-Fi only, charging only), and auto-album creation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about DriveVault.

DriveVault is a privacy-first dashcam app for Android that turns your phone into a professional-grade dashcam. It records video with GPS overlays, supports dual cameras, has on-device AI detection, and keeps all your data local by default. It's fully open source with no ads, no tracking, and no account required.
Yes! DriveVault is completely free and open source. The full source code is available on GitHub. There are no premium tiers, no subscriptions, and no hidden costs. You can even build it from source if you prefer.
Yes. DriveVault uses an Android foreground service to continue recording even when you turn off the screen or switch to another app. A minimal recording bar stays visible so you know it's active. You can tap it to quickly return to the app.
You're in full control. You can set a storage quota in Settings, and DriveVault will auto-delete the oldest unlocked clips to stay within your limit. A 60-second 1080p clip at balanced bitrate uses approximately 60-80 MB. You can also choose lower quality (720p) or higher quality (4K) depending on your needs.
Absolutely. Core recording, GPS overlay, and clip management work entirely offline. The mini map caches tiles for offline use. Only optional features like Immich sync and anonymous clip sharing require a network. You can even enable Local-Only Mode to disable all network features with one toggle.
Immich is a self-hosted photo and video backup solution. DriveVault can optionally sync your dashcam clips to your own Immich server. Your API key is encrypted on-device, and clips go directly from your phone to your server — they never pass through DriveVault's systems.
This opt-in feature lets you share clips via time-limited links that expire after 24 hours. Only the video file is uploaded (no GPS data), and it's stored anonymously with a random UUID. Anyone with the link can view it, but after 24 hours it's permanently deleted. You must explicitly enable this in Settings.
Yes. GPS coordinates, speed, and route data are stored locally on your device and are never uploaded automatically. When sharing or exporting clips, you can choose to blur or exclude location data entirely. Anonymous clip sharing strips GPS data by default.
DriveVault requests Camera (record video), Microphone (optional audio recording), Location (GPS overlay), Notifications (recording status), Storage (save clips/exports), Foreground Service (background recording), and Internet (optional features). Every permission is explained in detail on our privacy policy page.
We're actively preparing the Play Store listing. In the meantime, you can download the APK directly from GitHub Releases. The app will be available on Google Play soon — stay tuned!
You have two options: use the in-app bug reporter (Settings → Support & Feedback) which automatically attaches diagnostic info, or open an issue on GitHub Issues. Feature suggestions are welcome too!
Yes! Clone the repository, copy local.properties.example to local.properties, fill in your Firebase/Supabase values, and run ./gradlew assembleDebug. Full instructions are in the README.
