Knightfall is designed with user privacy as a core principle. This policy explains what information we collect, how it is used, and the control you have over your data.

1. Information We Collect and How We Use It

Depending on how you use Knightfall (the Android application or the web client), we may collect and process the following data:

• Account Information: If you sign up using email or Google Sign-In, we store your email address, user ID, and username in Firebase Authentication and Firestore to secure your account and sync your stats.
• Game Data: If you use an account or play as a guest in matchmaking/friend play, we collect game states, chess moves, and outcomes. This is required to facilitate online play and track your Elo rating.
• Leaderboard Profiles: Profiles are private by default. If you opt-in to a Public profile via the app settings, your username, Elo rating, and win/loss records will be visible on the in-app leaderboard and this website.
• Diagnostics and Analytics: In the Android application, we collect anonymous usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase), crash logs (Firebase Crashlytics), and performance metrics (Firebase Performance Monitoring) to improve stability and gameplay. Each of these components is fully optional.

2. Data Running on Your Device

Your games played against the local AI, and comments generated by the on-device AI coach, run entirely offline on your phone's processor. This data is never uploaded to our servers or shared with any third party.

3. Your Rights & Choices

We believe you should have total control over your data. Knightfall provides the following options directly inside the app's Settings screen:

• Toggle Public Profile: Switch your profile between public and private at any time.
• Opt-out of Diagnostics: Turn off crash reporting, usage analytics, or performance tracking individually.
• Delete Account and Data: One tap permanently deletes your Firebase Authentication record, Firestore profile, and online game history. This action cannot be undone.

4. Ads & Monetization

Android app: Knightfall displays Google AdMob banner ads at the bottom of game screens and interstitial ads before games start. Google AdMob may collect and use advertising identifiers for ad targeting and personalization, subject to your device's ad-personalization settings.

Website (chartmann1590.github.io/knightfall): The Knightfall website displays ads served by Google AdSense (publisher ID: ca-pub-8382831211800454). Google AdSense and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show you ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or NAI opt-out page. You can also opt out by visiting aboutads.info.

5. Cookies

The Knightfall website uses cookies for the following purposes:

• Authentication: Firebase Authentication uses cookies and local storage tokens to keep you signed in.
• Advertising: Google AdSense sets cookies to serve and measure ads. These may be used by Google and its advertising partners to track your activity across websites for ad personalization.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time, though this may affect site functionality.
