Morrowkept: a private audio journal with on-device transcripts
Morrowkept records your voice journal, transcribes it with on-device Whisper, summarizes it with local AI, and can record from a Wear OS watch.

Talking is faster than typing, which makes a voice journal easy to keep. Finding something you said three weeks ago is another matter: audio is hard to skim. Morrowkept solves that by transcribing every recording on your phone, making it searchable, and adding AI summaries, while keeping the audio, the text and the insights on your device.
What it does
- On-device speech-to-text. Recordings are transcribed on the phone using Whisper models, with no cloud servers, no third-party transcription services and no audio uploads.
- Tap to jump. Tap any part of a transcript to jump straight to that moment in the audio.
- Local AI summaries. Lightweight Gemma models on the device summarize recordings, suggest titles, and answer questions grounded in what you actually said.
- Full-text search. A local search index lets you find any moment by the words spoken in it.
- Wear OS recording. Start, pause and save recordings from your watch.
- Exports. Save M4A audio, plain-text transcripts, timestamped SRT subtitle files, or a complete ZIP bundle.
How the watch companion works
The watch is handy when pulling out your phone is awkward. You start and stop a recording on your wrist, and when the watch is paired with your phone, the audio is transferred securely over Google Play services and checked before the watch's copy is cleared. You get the convenience of a wrist recorder without the risk of losing a recording mid-transfer.
Ways to use it
- Daily reflection. Talk through your day in a minute or two, then let the summary and suggested title do the filing.
- Ideas on the go. Record an idea from your watch and find it later by searching for a word you remember saying.
- Conversations and notes. Capture a conversation, then export the transcript as plain text or the subtitles as SRT.
- Questions over your own words. Ask the AI about a recording and get answers based on what was said in it.
Privacy
Morrowkept is account-free:
- No login, no user accounts and no backend database holding your recordings.
- Audio files and transcripts are stored in encrypted app-private storage.
- That storage is excluded from standard device cloud backups.
Because nothing goes to the cloud, the exports are how you keep your own copy elsewhere.
Good to know
- Morrowkept is free to download and is supported by non-personalized banner and transition ads.
