Pawdub: your dog finally has subtitles (and yes, it's a joke app that really listens)
Pawdub puts funny movie subtitles on your dog or cat when it actually barks or meows. Real on-device sound and scene detection, 8 personas, 59 languages, no account and nothing uploaded. It is a joke app and says so. Coming soon to Google Play.

Your dog barks at the front door. A subtitle fades in under him: "THE MAILMAN HAS RETURNED. I WILL HANDLE THIS." That is the whole idea behind Pawdub, a new Android app from Hartmann Studios. It is for fun, and it says so on the first screen: no app can translate animals, and Pawdub never claims to. What it does do is listen and look for real, then pick a line that fits.
What actually happens
Point the camera at your dog or cat. The app listens for a bark, whine, growl, howl, meow, purr or hiss, detected on your phone. When it hears one, a movie-style subtitle appears. No sound, no subtitle. It also looks at the scene (a door, a food bowl, the couch, a toy, a bed), so the joke matches the moment: a cat at the window gets a different line than a cat at an empty bowl.
The lines themselves are jokes written for each persona. They are not a reading of what your pet means, and the app gives no advice about your pet's health, mood, training or behaviour. If you are worried about your pet, talk to a vet.
Personas
Eight of them: Drama Queen, Golden Retriever Energy, Grumpy Old Man, Royal Highness, Tiny Gremlin, Food Critic, Conspiracy Theorist and Noir Detective. Each one has its own voice and its own set of lines, so the same bark becomes a very different movie depending on who is "talking".
59 languages, offline
Subtitles come in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Arabic and 50 more. Each language is downloaded from Google once and then works offline. Pro adds bilingual subtitles.
Clips you already have

Privacy
Everything runs on your phone with on-device AI. The microphone and camera are used only while the camera screen is open, audio and video are processed on the device and never uploaded, and there is no account. Delete a clip from the library, or everything from Settings > Delete all data. The privacy policy is at chartmann1590.github.io/pawdub-site/privacy.
Pawdub has been submitted to Google Play and is in review. Until the listing is live, the Pawdub site has the screenshots and the promo video; this post gets the Play link the day it goes live.
