CruiseLoom: an offline-first planner for cruise days and ports

A cruise is a strange place to rely on your phone. Internet at sea can be slow, expensive or missing, your plans change port by port, and your group scatters across a ship the size of a small town. CruiseLoom is a cruise companion built around that reality: your itinerary works offline, weather is cached for weak connections, and your party can chat nearby without the internet.

What it does

  • Voyage planning. Set your ship and sailing dates, see sea days, port days and upcoming plans at a glance, and add dinners, shows, excursions and local reminders.
  • Port prep. Search and organize real port stops, check current conditions and a seven-day forecast, and cache recent weather for patchy connections.
  • Route map. View your itinerary on a route map built on OpenStreetMap.
  • Deck plans. Download optional ship-deck schematics for supported ships.
  • Nearby group chat. Add shipmates with a QR code generated on your phone, then chat over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct using broadcast or private messages.
  • Guest chat. Host temporary guest Wi-Fi chat for companions who do not have the app.

Before you sail

  1. Enter your ship and sailing dates.
  2. Add your port stops and check each one's forecast.
  3. Put dinners, shows and excursions on the right days, with reminders.
  4. Download the deck schematics if your ship is supported.
  5. Open the app with a connection before boarding so recent weather is cached.

Once that is done, the core itinerary planning remains useful offline, which is the point on days when the ship's internet is not cooperating.

Keeping the group together

The chat feature does not depend on the ship's internet. Shipmates scan a locally generated QR code to join, and messages travel directly between nearby phones over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct. You can send a message to everyone or privately to one person. For a companion without the app, you can host a temporary guest Wi-Fi chat instead.

Where your data lives

The listing is clear about this: CruiseLoom stores cruise plans and chat history locally on your device, and Android cloud backup is disabled. Online services are used only for features such as weather, maps, optional deck downloads, diagnostics and advertising, as explained in the app's privacy policy. Because backup is off, plans live only on that phone.

Good to know

  • CruiseLoom is free to download and contains ads.
  • Some features ask for optional permissions: camera, nearby devices, location or notifications.
  • CruiseLoom is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any cruise line.
  • Deck schematics are only available for supported ships.
  • It is rated Teen, in the Travel and Local category.

Is it for you?

  • You have a cruise coming up and want every day's plan in one place.
  • You expect weak or pricey internet at sea and need things to work offline.
  • You travel with a group and want a way to message without ship Wi-Fi.
  • You like keeping your plans on your own device rather than in a cloud account.
